History of the Tesla Roadster RR
Originally sold as a fully loaded Tesla Roadster Sport . VIN 1124 found its way into the hands of Joost De Vries, the VP of Service at Tesla. Joost, tasked with creating profit centers, utilized the car as a test platform to develop a performance parts program aimed at selling existing Roadster inventory and offering upgrades to current Roadster customers.
During 2011/2012, the service division, primarily Tesla Australia, spearheaded the development of performance parts, initially dubbed "The Tesla Roadster RR" and later branded as E-Sport. This program underwent thorough testing and refinement, featuring custom raw carbon bodywork and various parts developed in collaboration with multiple suppliers in Australia.
The rebuilding of VIN 1124 included work by Carl Medlock at Tesla Seattle Service for the body (2011/2012), and final mechanical and electrical upgrades at Tesla Fremont by the Field Service Team under Jamison Cummings (late 2012). Jamison also oversaw the validation and testing of custom firmware, conducted by Continental in Brimley, Michigan. Internal testing by Tesla Design and Validation confirmed the program's roadworthiness.
Regrettably, despite its promising development, the E-Sport program was never publicly launched due to internal organizational changes. Nevertheless, VIN 1124 retains its unique place in Tesla's history as the only vehicle built with this package of parts, affectionately referred to as the "Tesla Roadster RR."
After receiving an 80kW pack upgrade and subsequent mishap resulting in battery discharge, the vehicle underwent restoration efforts led by Jamison and Carl. Acquiring a new 3.0 battery proved challenging, leading to a two-year wait before installation. The chassis underwent CO2 blasting, and minor parts were replaced.
Presently, this iconic Tesla Roadster RR, with minimal mileage over the past few years, stands as a testament to Tesla's innovation and is ready to join a discerning collector's lineup.
